Seeking Different Perspectives

Through reading up on McKinsey’s research publications for 2015 – “Decoding Leadership” made the top of my list. The article talks about how leaders through demonstrating 4 key behaviours can contribute to effective leadership within their organization.

One of these core behaviours has to do with Seeking Different Perspectives. It requires an open mind, an awareness of cognitive biases and the ability to take-apart ideas presented. According to the McKinsey Organizational Health Index “Leaders who do well on this dimension typically base their decisions on sound analysis and avoid the many biases to which decisions are prone.”

Seeking different perspectives helps drive meaningful organizational engagement around an initiative or a specific focus. This generally allows us to identify opportunities or risks sooner and execute faster.
